To Diamond-Studded Summer Night: A Love Letter From Spring

Wishes shine bright in diamond-studded skies
inviting me to reach and take them in hand
from this blue velvet cape like cold chipped ice,
and I wonder how they got there, shining grand.
Are they fireballs, flying beasts of gas?
Or are they the precious rocks that Lucy guards?
There are so many questions I would ask
as to the perplexing nature of these stars.
Perhaps, when creation was set and done,
the Lord said, “We will set before day seven,
several windows in the sky with Our thumb,
that in times dark, they still may look in Heaven.”
Is this last answer fact? I know what’s true,
but I still wonder this diamond-studded blue.
